  • Note: This paper has developed out of my previous paper "Does Cost Uncertainty in the Bertrand Model Soften Competition?" from 2013 (available below). The 2013 paper covered only the case where the firms' costs are drawn independently and where the demand function is linear. On the other hand, the 2013 paper also studied an asymmetric model (using numerical methods). For these reasons I think of "Bertrand under Uncertainty: Private and Common Costs" as a completely new paper. However, I will now bury the 2013 paper. That is, I will not submit it or try to publish it anywhere, although (for the time being anyway) I will keep it available on this website.
